Tigers can grow to be up to ten feet long. They can weigh from 400 to 575 pounds. When they have young they may have from one to five. Most Bengal Tigers live in parts of India and Southeast Asia. The Bengal Tiger got on the endangered species list after it was hunted, trapped and poisoned so much that it had almost completely dissapeared except for in national parks and other preserves. The Bengal tiger is now protected under many different laws. In their natural habitats tigers occupy almost 200 miles of territory. On that territory they hunt and live. They also use it for excersise. But if the Tigers get stuck in a small preserve and do not have enough room to move around, they will become stressed and may eventually die.Tigers are hated because of old stories and rumors about them. Many other people fear tigers. They usually will not harm a human unless they feel that they have to. Sometimes they will attack cattle and other livestock but this occurs mainly when the tigers food supply has run low or may have even run out. When a tiger attacks an enemy or it's prey, it approaches silently and undetected. Then it pounces onto the preys back and kills it by biting on the preys throat and neck.Tigers eat maily deer, antelopes, pigs, and buffalo. When a tiger has it's prey down, or dead, it may drag it as far as 1,500 feet to a safe location to eat it. It can drag it this far even if the prey weighs several hundred pounds.Tigers can live in several different lairs at one time. Only in one though, can their be a female that bears cubs. The cubs join their mother in the hunt when they are only 8 weeks old. At 6 months they can kill. and when the cubs are 16 months old, they can feed themselves and are just about ready to live on their own.
